Poynton Royal British Legion Concert Band exists to make good music, to entertain, and for its members to enjoy playing together in ensemble. Band members come along to weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals at the Poynton Royal British Legion (8pm - 10pm) and perform in several concerts throughout the year
Band members are of all ages, and from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some members have been playing music from an early age, others picked their instruments up after a long lapse since school and some have started playing from scratch later in life when time permitted.
The Poynton Royal British Legion Concert Band consists of:
flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, bass saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion.
The Band has a wide and varied repertoire which it continues to broaden and expand, embracing styles ranging from military marches to arrangement of classical music and selections from the shows as well as works and arrangements of music by local composers.
The Band does not hold audition but does suggest for a minimum standard of around grade 5 or equivalent. What is more important is a willingness to work at improving musically and a desire to have fun.
Above all, the Band are extremely friendly, hard working and passionate about community music.
